On May 5th, I got the text from the E family at 9:30am telling me that she was headed to the hospital. This was her 3rd baby and she let me know she had labored for quite some time with the other two. By 2:30pm I headed up there to make sure I got there with plenty of time to capture some of those special moments of the couple before all of the craziness started. When I arrived at the hospital, they had just broke her water so I knew things were going to start pretty quickly. As a photographer, I want to make sure I stay out of the way like a fly on the wall. I will quietly follow you and take the shots without getting in the way. It's like I am not even there. I have two little girls myself and had two very different deliveries. Having the opportunity to witness another woman's birth is simply amazing. The very first birth I witnessed was that of my niece being born. I had no kids at this point, so every little thing was new to me and I couldn't have put into words how it must have been. I just remember thinking to myself "Wow! She just did that!". Now, after having my girls, it is a lot different. I can sympathize with the moms and it almost feels like I am there going through all of the stages of labor. It makes me want to cry for you, with you, and shed those happy tears that it is over and you now have your beautiful little baby! It is the most AMAZING experience and being able to provide you with these photos after is also amazing. For the E family, it didn't take long once I got there for things to progress and active labor to begin. This couple's chemistry was awesome to witness and capture. He was there through every contraction, breathing with her, and helping her keep control. By 5:00 pm she was ready to get her baby boy out. She started pushing at 5:14 pm and delivered him by 5:20 pm. How amazing is that?! You go mom! Another plus in having a photographer present is that all of the photos are time stamped. =) While you are doing all the hard work having your baby I am there to document it all, the emotions, the time, the chaotic craziness that happens, and whether it takes minutes or hours. Congratulations to the E family! You DID it! Bringing in your 3rd child!

I am incredibly excited to announce my new brand! Say hello to the new Amber Sullivan Photography. Here is a look at the new branding board with my new logo and watermark. Thanks to Kayla Batista of Batista Graphic Design (http://www.batistagfx.com/) I have a new look that fits me and my business! She did such an awesome job creating everything from the logo to adding a little pop to my website. I am excited to start this journey with a fresh look!
If you are looking for a new logo or an entire brand I would definitely recommend her. Go check her out! www.facebook.com/batistagfx Since becoming a photographer years ago, I have learned that it doesn't take just a good camera to be great. I have read books, joined groups, watched webinars, found a lot inspiration from other photographers, and everyday I learn something new about my camera and it's capabilities as well as my own.
I have always had a passion for taking photos but never really took the time to get creative. Then I became pregnant with my first and decided to get newborn pictures done. Our photographer was awesome! She was a baby whisperer, had everything down to a 'T' and our photos turned out beautiful. I saw how she handled herself, knew what she was doing, and how she enjoyed every minute of her job. That was it. That was the start of my journey to learn how to use my camera. Becoming a photographer is helping others capture these moments in time that will soon change with time. It is knowing how to talk to your clients, helping them choose clothing for the day, and how to make things go smoother and quicker for the better pictures. It is also spending time to check out the places you'll go and offer your clients. I am constantly looking around for new places with great views and possibilities for having great sessions. I do have a few go to spots for sessions for different reasons. 1. Majestic View Park, Arvada This place has spectacular views of the mountains. During the Golden Hour before sunset is the best time to go. The light is to die for as it creeps behind the mountains. 2. Sunset Park, Lakewood I like this spot because it has a lot to offer in a short amount of time. There is a field, creek, bridge, and trees (that are awesome for fall colors). 3. Red Barn, Boulder My new favorite place. This place was shared by a fellow photographer and friend. She took my family photos here and there is so much to offer. A rustic looking barn, run down fences, mountains in the background, and fields for days. So the next time you are looking for a photographer to take your family photos, just know that you aren't only paying them to take your photos. You are paying them for the knowledge they have to give you the best experience they can and the art that they can produce for you to have for lifetimes to come. Thank you to all of my friends, family, fellow photographers, and clients that have all helped me grow to become better at what I love to do. Book now! There are limited spots available and you wouldn't want to miss out on your family photos this year. Needing new ones to put on your holiday cards this year?
